Gentleman Thief — bourbon cocktail over a large ice sphere in a rocks glass, sticky notes on a corkboard behind

Inspired by Corporate Bullshit

Gentleman Thief

  • 2 oz barrel proof bourbon
  • 1/2 oz Benedictine DOM
  • 1/3 oz walnut liqueur
  • 2 dashes tobacco bitters
  • 2 dashes black walnut bitters

Combine all ingredients and stir over ice for 30 seconds or until condensation forms on the outside of the mixing glass. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube (or sphere, pictured). Express orange oil over the drink and garnish with the peel.

There’s a semi-famous book called Twelve Against the Gods by William Bolitho Ryall. I read it in my early 20s; my main takeaway was that many historical “adventurers” (e.g. Alexander the Great, Columbus, Napoleon) began their careers by lying to a large number of people.

It’s one of Elon Musk’s favorite books.

There is a thin line between a genius and a charlatan. And that line is a line of credit.
